Trash Bash 2017, celebrating TVCR’s 20th year, was a huge success in fundraising and bringing the recycling community together. On Saturday November 4, revelers were entertained by the talented Miller Sisters at the West Side Yard. There were dozens of wonderful auction items donated by generous local businesses and individuals. Bob Benedict won the raffle for a 2018 season pass at Grand Targhee Resort.
The highlight of the evening, as always, was the amazing gowns created and worn by our talented valley Trashionistas. Chloe Brightman won both first and second prize for her two creative designs, “Slap a Bow On It” made of chicken wire and old magazines worn by model, Tanya Walz and “Milk and Sugar” made from used coffee bags. Third place winner was Linda Prentice wearing her creation “Oreo Queen” made from old Oreo cookie bags. The kids especially enjoyed the cookies she threw out. Winner in the Youth Division was Daisy Kotler sporting her “Twine Time Cowgirl” outfit made of feed bags and baling twine. The crowd was wowed by this inspiring Trashion Show. Erica Rice sewed sashes for the winners and the kids from “Maker Monday,” the free after school program sponsored by Valley of the Tetons Library, crafted some impressive trophies from salvaged materials.
TVCR also awarded the annual “Recycler of the Year” prize, this year to an inspired construction company, With The Grain, who exemplify waste diversion ethics and principles in their operation. Kurt Mitchell and Todd Witek, owners of With The Grain, have diverted more than 27 tons of construction waste from the landfill over the last year alone through diligent education and supervision of materials at their job sites. We hope they inspire others to follow their lead.
