Thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Teton Valley, Teton Valley Community Recycling is giving away lightweight backyard compost bins to community members interested in diverting their food waste (and yard waste) from the landfill. Leftover food scraps, peels, and spoiled food makes great fodder for bacteria and worms which in turn break it down into nutrient rich soil for you garden or landscape plants. Not only that, but a well-maintained backyard compost doesn’t release methane gas unlike the same materials sent to a landfill which decompose anaerobically resulting in powerful greenhouse gas emission.
TVCR will be offering education, support, and encouragement to new composters – as well as collecting data on how much food waste is being composted in these composters.
To sign up and get a free composter,
To learn more about how to set up and use your bin, please watch our short (4 min.) video
Bins can be picked up in Victor by appointment – and occasionally in Driggs by appointment.
Join the composting revolution and prevent food waste from ending up in the landfill!
