TVCR is grateful for the support we have received from the Teton Springs Foundation.

TVCR expresses sincere thanks to everyone who participated in and donated during the 4th Annual Tin Cup Challenge!  This is our biggest fundraising event of the year and a good time to boot.

  1. Fees and payment information

Tell the Scale Master your count

Example: 3 bags of trash and 3 bags of recycling.

You will be inspected and noted. Because people have been throwing their

garbage into the recycling bins we had to move the bins to an

area where they can be monitored.

For questions please contact the Teton County Solid Waste Manager, Margaret Gillentine

PHONE 354-3442 OR mgillentine@co.teton.id.us

SORTED WASTE

Any waste brought to the transfer station that will be divided by the hauler into the following different material categories:

  • Glass Bottles and Jars – All colors mixed together.
    • Glass Only - Please do not toss a bag of party garbage that contains glass into the bin.
    • No windows
  • Paper – Right now, paper is sent to the landfill. This will change when we move into the recycling tent.  However, by separating your paper, you provide the transfer station with an estimate of paper that will be recycled as a commodity in the future.  Right now, its your choice to help the County understand how much paper to expect or to trash your paper
  • Corrugated Cardboard – Boxes must be flattened, and empty of all contents.
    • NO Styrofoam packaging.
    • NO Greyboard such as cereal boxes, egg cartons, etc
  • Aluminum Cans – Please rinse to keep bees and flies from living in them.
  • Steel/Tin Cans – Please rinse to keep bees and flies from living in them.
  • Wire
  • Wood - dimensional lumber, 2X4's, floor joists, plywood/OSB
  • Sheetrock (Gypsum wall board) - no wood attached
  • Rocks, concrete, masonry, soil (clean)
  • Green Waste - Grass and yard trimmings
  • Brush, tree limbs, logs, stumps, untreated posts
  • Manure
  • Used Motor Oil
  • Car and household batteries
  • Printer Inkjet Cartridges
  • Cell Phones, iPods and MP3 Players, Digital Cameras, PDA's, Palm Pilots  - Collected at the scale house and recycled via a zero-landfill policy through Project KOPEG.

UNSORTED WASTE

All Household and Non-Household waste not included in one of the categories listed above.

HOUSEHOLD WASTE

Waste produced by a household or a business doing normal, every-day activities at the location shown on their “tax receipt.”

NON-HOUSEHOLD WASTE

All other waste, including waste produced by contractors performing construction or landscaping work, and waste produced by households or businesses conducting one-time cleanup or construction activities.

RELATED PROGRAMS

We are working on these programs on a county and regional level and hope to provide both collection systems in the future.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)
Please note that Household Hazardous Waste must be separated out and taken to Jackson Recycling. They charge a fee which will be reimbursed by our county if you bring your receipt to the Court House.

Electronic Waste (E-Waste)
Jackson has a system for providing this service. Please use it.

Most electronics – TVs, computers, monitors, stereos, etc. are best separated and recycled. It costs money to do this, but the toxic components, not to mention valuable components are best handled by professionals.

RECYCLE OTHER ITEMS :

Plastic Bags – Are being collected at Broulims for recycling by bulk.

  • Plastic #2 shopping bags and clear bulk bags

Cell Phones

Cell phones can be recycled at the scale house at the Transfer station.
Alternatively, you can donate your phone to the Family Safety Network or See-n-Save to be given as 911 emergency phones for needy families. This is true of all cell phones. Or you may want to pass yours on to a friend or family member for emergency use only. Most phones do not need the Sim card to make a 911 call.

Batteries
Regular batteries can go in the regular garbage. It creates more pollution to recycle them than to dispose of them at this point. When that changes we will post it here. Worn out Rechargeable batteries can be recycled locally at Radio Shack.

Document Shredding
Jackson Recycling  shreds and certifies document destruction. They can shred 2,000 lbs an hour for just 20 cents a pound! No one does it cheaper. If you shred your own, you can bring it in plastic bags and put in the "Office Pack" bin unless they have a separate bin set up.

Styrofoam Beads/Plastic Packaging
Styrofoam lasts forever in landfills and releases toxic gases if burned or heated.
Encourage stores to use paper or reused styrofoam and plastic bubble wrap. Encourage restaurants and coffee shops to switch to paper or other bio-degradable products for a few cents more.  MISO Hungry, Victor Cafe Java the Hut, SUBA in Victor and Grand Targhee do this now. Let us know who else is doing this so we can list them here.
